In April, we welcomed Sr. Gianna Casino to our team—a woman whose journey is as unique as the gifts she brings to those she serves. Before entering religious life, Sr. Gianna was a college breakdancer and K-POP dancer. Today, she is a Catholic sister, psychotherapist, and children’s author—each chapter of her life shaped by a deep and growing desire to bring healing to others.
As a member of the Leaven of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (LIHM), Sr. Gianna integrates faith and clinical care in a way that is both compassionate and transformative. She has a special heart for children, particularly those who carry wounds that are difficult to express. Through trauma-informed care, play therapy, and crisis support, she creates a space where young people can feel safe, seen, and understood.
Sr. Gianna has an ability to meet people at the intersection of their emotional and spiritual needs. She recognizes the deepest wounds often touch a person’s sense of identity—and she gently walks with children and families as they rediscover their worth, dignity, and hope.
In her role at Catholic Charities, Sr. Gianna will focus on children’s therapy and faith-based counseling, accompanying young clients as they navigate challenges, build resilience, and experience healing. Her presence is a beautiful reflection of our mission—bringing Christ’s love into moments where it is needed most.
“My deepest joy is meeting God in every child and the hidden child in every adult. Joy is not the absence of wounds, but a heart held, known, and gently loved by God.”
Sr. Gianna as an Author
Sr. Gianna has authored books, including The Puffel series, inspired by Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, as a way for parents and teachers to nurture love in our deepest identity. She writes to reflect part of the mystery of suffering.
